Getting here Sioma River Camp is located 12 km. south
of the Sioma (Ngonye) Falls – midway between Sesheke and Senanga in Western
Province - 315 km. from Livingstone (Victoria Falls) and 113 km. from Katimo
Mulilo, the borderpost between Zambia and Namibia. From Livingstone the drive
will take 4-5 hours (the road to Sesheke – first 200 km. - is tarred, but the
last 115 km. from the border the road is gravel/sand).
Sioma Camps are accessible by road all year round (in a 4x4 with good ground clearance). There is an airstrip a few km. away from Sioma River Camp, so transfer by air from Livingstone – or elsewhere in Zambia - is an option.
Access to Sioma Ngwezi National Park is difficult. A track goes from Sioma in the northwest corner of the park to Sinjembela in the southwest corner, continues downstream along the Kwando River (border with Angola) to Imusho in the southeast corner (bordering Namibia), from where the sandy road will take you back to the main Sesheke-Senanga road. There used to be a road through the park, but due to fallen logs (these elephants can be so annoying!) the road has been inaccessible for several years.
From Sioma one may continue along the
Zambezi River to the pontoon ferry south of Senanga from where a tarmac road
(many potholes, but due for rehabilitatation beginning of 2008) leads to Mongu.
The distance from Mongu to Lusaka is 600 km. on good tarmac road.
